You have to go back to the main road and from there access a gravel road going up El Cerro Garrote, from where you have a nice view of the Embalse de Alcántara.

Back onto the N-630, you go past the church of San Cristóbal and the Fuente de la República. After some ups and downs, you end up in Puerto de los Castaños, where you will be walking amidst cork oaks.
If you want, you can call it a day at Grimaldo or get some provisions and continue walking. If you do so, you have to take the detour towards the village.

“In 2013, a 16th-century wooden sculpture of Jesus Christ was found in Cañaveral. It is called Cristo del Humilladero and you can see it in the parish church”.
