14 km

The second stage of the Portuguese Coastal Way will take us to Póvoa de Varzim. 14 kilometers that will pass close to the sea and those that will alternate wooden walkways with historic cities such as Vila do Conde. The route does not have great difficulties and the route is perfectly cyclable, like the previous stage.

We start in Labruge and head back to the beach to continue this Portuguese Way along the Coast. We propose a more or less short stage, which will allow you to rest from the first day and stop to enjoy the landscapes and places that we pass through.

The first kilometers of this second stage will allow us to cross several beaches until we reach Vila Chã and its beautiful fishermen's houses. After crossing the town, the natural route returns us to the beach, where we will continue our journey along the wooden walkways of the sandy areas. Thus, we arrive at Mindelo beach and its Ornithological Reserve.

In Louçá-Mindelo we momentarily move away from the sea to head for Vila do Conde. As it is a very affordable stage, we recommend that you make a stop along the way and enjoy this beautiful Portuguese town. Until Povoa do Varzim there are barely 4 kilometers left, so it is a good opportunity to get to know the surroundings.

In addition to its port, Vila do Conde stands out for some essential monuments such as the Monastery of Santa Clara or the medieval aqueduct. We recommend you take a walk through the old town or even relax on its beaches, which claim to be the best north of Porto. In the event that you do not want to visit Vila do Conde, you can continue your Way along the river bank.

The pilgrim will pass in front of the replica of a caravel, will continue to the São Joao Baptista fort to return to the Atlantic coast.
Be very careful when following the yellow arrows, since from Vila do Conde there is a variant that leads to the central Portuguese Way and which will direct our steps towards the interior. Specifically to São Pedro de Rates. After crossing Vila do Conde following the yellow arrows, the Camino will take us directly to our end of the stage: Póvoa de Varzim.

What to see and do in Póvoa de Varzim? Póvoa de Varzim is a Portuguese town consecrated to the sea. However, for a few decades it has been a tourist destination, especially in summer.

Póvoa de Varzim is well known for its casino, an elegant neoclassical building that opened its doors in 1934. Next to it we find another of the town's attractions: the Nossa Senhora da Conceição fort (18th century). The town hall, the pelourinho or the Nossa Senhora da Lapa church are some of the places that we recommend you see before continuing your Camino to Santiago. Of course, Póvoa de Varzim has great beaches where you can rest or enjoy a bath, especially in the summer month
