Cabañes - Santo Toribio de Liébana

The other option is to start the descent towards Allende and take the turning to the left along the river Rubejo.
This route takes us directly to the recreational area of the ancient chestnut grove of Habario, with beautiful specimens that we can enjoy.

Following the signposted route we reach Pendes, famous for its "quesucos de Liébana", where we can make a stop and visit the cheese factory. Between dirt tracks we reach Tama, having passed the Hermida gorge. Here we can enjoy its church with Romanesque remains. We now approach the end of the stage and the end of the Camino Lebaniego, always parallel to the river Deva.

Through several tracks and local roads we enter Potes, capital of the Liébana region. Potes has a beautiful old town, declared a historic-artistic site, among which the 15th century Infantado Tower stands out. Its bridges, emblazoned houses and Romanesque cobbled streets are worth more than a few hours' visit.
Potes also stands out for its gastronomy - with cocido lebaniego (a local stew) as one of its signature dishes - and its unique setting, with the Picos de Europa as a backdrop.

From Potes we have about 4km to the monastery of Santo Toribio, in classical Gothic and Baroque style. In addition to venerating the Lignum Crucis, during the Jubilee Holy Year we can walk through the Puerta del Perdón (Door of Forgiveness). Santo Toribio is the end point of the Camino Lebaniego and the start of the Vadiniense route, which connects with the French Way to Santiago de Compostela.

Pilgrims can stay at the hostel in Potes, managed by the Centro de Estudios Lebaniegos, located in the old Gothic church of San Vicente. There is also a hostel for groups next to the monastery of Santo Toribio.
