25 km

This section is shorter than the previous one and leaves Jaca following the bronze scallop-shell signs that go past the church of Santiago and down the descent of Baños towards Pamplona. After three kilometres you will find the chapel of La Victoria.

Close to the river Aragón, the Camino continues along a ravine until it crosses the river Gas. The goal is to get to Santa Cilia de Jaca, with the Gothic façade of the church of San Salvador, and its renowned bread pan de hogaza; a wonderful place to stop and recover some strength.

A new footbridge crosses the ravine of Atarés and here you start climbing up to the viewpoint of Berdún - there you will be close to completing half of the section. After the camping Pirineos, you reach Puente de la Reina Jaca after crossing a stone bridge over the river Aragón. The official Camino does not cross the village but continues towards Arrés, a place located 3 kilometres up to the end of the section.

After the effort of this climb, Arrés welcomes pilgrims at 700 m above sea level with beautiful views over cereal fields and the area around the river Aragón. You can also visit the fortified 15th-century tower and the 16th-century church of Santa Águeda.

What to see and do in the stage Jaca - Arres

Carlos Aso Bailo
Carlos Aso Bailo Correos San Juan de la Peña

“Do not mind taking a detour from the Camino and walking to the imposing Monastery of San Juan de la Peña, a historic and artistic site in nature with wonderful views. You must not miss it! Back to Santa Cilia, while you visit Santa Cruz de la Serós, you might see some vultures and aircraft in the sky, the latter belong to the aerodrome of Santa Cilia, a place you may visit and where you can have something to eat.

In Arrés, you can visit its medieval tower, a reminder of the village’s past and how this surveillance tower was linked to that of Majones.  If you give notice in advance, you can enjoy the migas y cordero, a wonderful meal that will give you the energy to get to Martes, where you can visit the museum with antiques and traditional farming tools, managed by the locals”.
