The Symbols of the Camino
The main theme this year is Symbols of the Camino de Santiago. But, what are the Camino de Santiago symbols? Well, there are plenty of very different symbols, from typical signage elements like yellow arrows or milestones, to emblematic pilgrim elements like the scallop shells. A sculptures and monuments dedicated to the pilgrimage is also a symbol. As well as any cathedral, monument or town linked to the Camino de Santiago.
The images must allude to the Camino de Santiago, from any recognizable Camino element, to symbolic places or the presence of pilgrims.
If you’ve walked The Way, you probably have in mind many symbols that take you back to the Camino. Those are the symbols we are looking for. If to this you add a little imagination, creativity and take advantage of the beauty of the Camino, you have a recipe for success.
Past editions of this contest
This is not the first time Correos and iPeregrinos organize a Photography contest. In fact, this will be the fourth year in a row that this photography contest for Camino pilgrims is active.
Last year, the theme of this contest was: "The Colors of the Camino de Santiago”. Over 600 photographs were uploaded showing the variety of colors along the Camino de Santiago. From these, four were awarded with the prize: ‘Niebla en Roncesvalles’ (Fog in Roncesvalles) from Antonio Pascual, ‘Horizonte en el Camino’ (Horizon on the Camino) from Giorgio Mazzoldi, ‘Cor em movimento’ (Color in movement) from Diego Bregolin and the most voted on Facebook, ‘Entre Amarillo y azul’ (between yellow and blue) from Javier Rossi.
Other themes for the contest were: "The magic of the Camino de Santiago" and "The Values of the Way".
Apart from the awards, the winning photos and finalists took part in several traveling exhibitions across Spain.
