27 km

This is the last stage of the Winter Way, as it meets the Camino Sanabrés or Sanabria Way  in Bendoiro to reach Santiago de Compostela. You leave Rodeiro through the Avenida Lalín-Monforte towards Lalín and you cross the River Arnego.

You cross the river on the bridge “Ponte do Hospital”, named after the old hospital that used to care for pilgrims walking this route. This is where this Camino meets the one coming from Oseira.

Going past the village of Penerbosa, you get to A Ponte de Pedroso, where you can once again cross the river through its medieval 12th-century bridge. The area of Pedroso bears this name due to the large number of rocks and stones present there. The hórreos in the area show the signature of the old canteiros (stonemasons) in the area. Forest trails connect with gravel roads and main roads. The area of Goiás indicates that you are entering the municipality of Lalín.

The town itself has over 10,000 inhabitants and is the capital of the district of Deza. Here you can find all sorts of services. It is famous for its “Feira do Cocido”, a food festival that brings thousands of people together to enjoy one of the most delicous typical Galician dishes.  The Camino enters the town by the 10th-century church of Lalín de Arriba. You can also visit the monument to Lalín’s aviator Joaquín Loriga, the observatory Ramón María Aller Ulloa (astronomer, mathematician and priest from this town) and, of course, take a picture at Galicia’s kilometre Zero.

Those continuing to A Laxe, where there is a pilgrims’ hostel, will still have to walk another 6 kilometres.

What to do and see in Lalin?

Román Villanueva
Román Villanueva Correos Lalín

“The Feira do Cocido in Lalin is the major festival in town. It is held on the Sunday before Carnival with a huge procession of carrozas and comparsas, but in Lalín you can have good cocido anytime during winter, especially from January 15th to February 14th, when restaurants start preparing it under the motto “De San Amaro a San Valentín mes do cocido en Lalín” (From Saint Amaro’s Day to Saint Valentine’s Day, one month of cocido in Lalín). Besides, on the 3rd and 18th of every month there is the street market and all pilgrims can enjoy the atmosphere and the pulpeiras”
